When is the best time to look for an internship?
The best time is right now. The sooner you start getting professional experience the better. And you can easily fit an internship around your schedule. While you're attending classes, you can work just a few hours a week. Summer internships often allow for more hours, but some students prefer to work at a typical summer job to earn money while working a few hours a week as an unpaid intern to get some the professional experience they need for their resume. The possibilities are limitless, and can be tailored to meet your financial needs and your school and social schedule. Your Fast Track Internships consultant can give you a variety of options that will work for you.
My grades are just OK, can you still help me get an internship?
Yes. Grades are only one of the things employers are looking for. In fact, good internships are a great way to balance out a less than perfect GPA. Your Fast Track Internships consultant will work with you to uncover your hidden strengths and present them to companies in the most compelling way possible.
Can you help me even if I don't attend an "Ivy League" School?
Yes, of course. Fast Track Internships has helped students from a variety of colleges across the country.
What do companies look for when choosing an intern?
They're looking for students who show initiative. Those who are proactive and go-getters. Most important, they seek students who know the value of adding practical experience to their academic learning.
Can I still have an internship while I'm taking classes?
Absolutely. Companies want and need interns throughout the year. Many students can get the experience they need for their resumes just by working a few hours a week as an intern.
What if I don't really know what kind of job I want when I graduate?
One of the biggest advantages of internships is that they give students the opportunity to explore various career options before they graduate. By trying out different career choices, students are more likely to find a full time occupation that they really love. Fast Track Internships works one-on-one with students and can suggest different options you may wish to explore.
Can I choose when my internship begins and ends?
Yes. Most companies understand an intern is a student first and an employee second so they are willing to work out a schedule that meets your needs. There is a lot of flexibility, including time off for vacations. This is a subject you'll want to discuss with any company that makes you an offer to be sure it's a good fit.
Can I choose the location of my internship?
Yes. You specify where you want to work within the US. We select and market you to organizations only within your chosen geography. You can work in your home town, where your school is located or any other location. Of course, you will need to coordinate interviews and transportation to and from your job, but that is the only restriction.
Can I get college credit for my internship?
In some cases you can earn college credit for internships related to your academic studies. This is determined by the college and varies widely, so ask your college administrator.
What's the advantage in using Fast Track Internships over job posting sites?
Fast Track Internships is very different from online services, because Fast Track Internships works for the student, not the employer. Rather than simply forwarding your resume to compete with hundreds or even thousands of other applicants, we market you to those employers that match what you are looking for. In most cases your resume and cover letter will be the only one the employer will review. And it's likely the internship will have been created just for you. And unlike typical online services, we work with you personally, one-to-one, to help you identify the type of internship that matches your goals, your schedule and your location: 1) We select the appropriate company and target the individual within the organization who makes the hiring decision. 2) We create your
internship resume and a motivating internship cover letter. 3) We coach you on how to effectively handle the interview so that you will land your dream internship.
Do you receive any money from the company providing the internship?
Not one penny. We work only for the students. To your potential employers, Fast Track Internships is invisible. They simply get a great
internship cover letter and internship résumé from a student who apparently has shown a lot of initiative in contacting them…. which makes a great first impression!
When I hire Fast Track Internships, what will be my role in the process?
The Fast Track Internships system and your consultant do most of the work. Naturally, we'll need your involvement in an initial one-on-one consultation so we can personalize our efforts to find the type of internship you're looking for. This typically takes about an hour. We then prepare your
internship resume and internship cover letter and send it to you for your review. After that, Fast Track Internships will select just the right companies and individuals for you to contact. We print your
internship résumés on executive stationery and individually address your
internship cover letter and envelopes. We then send you all these materials to hand sign and mail. (We even provide the stamps.) The interested companies will call you directly to set up an interview. It's that simple.
Can you guarantee I'll get an internship?
Fast Track Internships has a fantastic success rate. We
guarantee that you will get
at least one offer
for an internship, or you get your money back. It
is up to you to decide if you want to accept any offer
that you receive, or not.
How much do internship jobs pay?
Internship pay varies from company to company. Paid internships typically pay $6 to $12 per hour. Your investment in getting an internship can easily pay for itself. Even if you chose a
unpaid internship, there's no better investment you can make in preparing yourself for your first career job after graduation than having relevant internship experience on your resume. What's more, many unpaid internships end up turning into paid jobs once you have proven yourself to the employer.
Why do paid and unpaid internships have different prices?
Simply put, there are more companies interested in providing unpaid internship positions, so naturally our costs for marketing to them are less. But whether you sign up for a paid
internship or unpaid internship, you receive the same expert services from Fast Track Internships. Also, in some cases we've seen unpaid internships turn into paid internships.
Can an internship turn into a permanent job once I graduate?
Yes. Many students are asked to return upon graduation to work at the company that employed them as interns. This is a great way to get a full time job lined up for when you graduate.
Are there any payment plans?
Yes. We accept Visa, Master Card, Discover and American Express which can allow you to pay the charges off over time.
Is it better to work as an intern for the same company, or multiple companies?
In most cases your career will be best served by building a breadth of experience, and that comes most easily by working as an intern for different companies. Moreover, your exposure to different organizations and fields of interest helps you better determine what you're most interested in before you graduate. On the other hand, if you love your first internship and are getting a range of experience, there is nothing wrong with staying there and taking on new responsibilities.
I've never been on a professional interview. Can you help me land the job?
Yes. Remember we work with you to select the companies that match your interests and strengths, so any internship you're interviewing for is one for which you are already qualified. But even more, we give you coaching on how to make a great impression during your interview – even tips on how to handle the multiple phone calls you'll receive from companies interested in hiring you.
When is the best time to get started?
Like most things in life, the sooner you get started the better. In most situations we are motivating an employer to create an internship for you where none existed before. It's to the benefit of you and the employer to lock in the internship well in advance. We'll address what will be best for you and your specific situation during our initial one-on-one consultation.
